Protecting Platypus in South-East Queensland

Project
Platypus Research
Location
South-East Queensland
Year
2021

Over the span of her PhD fieldwork, around two years, Nicolas followed and documented Tamielle Brunt’s platypus research across south-east Queensland. The result is a short documentary and the photo series below.

The work meant long stretches in and along creeks and waterways, surveying for one of Australia’s most elusive and hard-to-observe animals. Documenting it over that time was a chance to capture not just the platypus itself but the patient, repetitive reality of field research, the early starts and the hours of waiting that rarely make it into the final picture of a study.
