Tjakuṟa is the Great Desert Skink, also known as Warrarna, Tjalapa and Mulyamiji. It is a species of deep cultural significance to Aboriginal people, and desert Rangers are working to save it from extinction.

In 2021 the Australian Government contracted the Indigenous Desert Alliance to work with Rangers across the desert on a new Recovery Plan for Tjakuṟa. The plan brings together Indigenous Knowledge and scientific research into a single document, one that educates and motivates people around the management and research actions needed to halt the decline of Tjakuṟa and support its recovery over the coming decade.

Nicolas travelled to Central Australia to film and photograph this work, documenting the Rangers and the Country at the heart of the recovery effort.

More about the project is available from the Indigenous Desert Alliance.
