Nicolas travelled to Central Australia to film and photograph this work, documenting the Rangers and the Country at the heart of the recovery effort.
Tjakuṟa is the Great Desert Skink, also known as Warrarna, Tjalapa and Mulyamiji, a species of deep cultural significance to Aboriginal people that desert Rangers are working to save from extinction. In 2021 the Australian Government contracted the Indigenous Desert Alliance to work with Rangers on a Recovery Plan for Tjakuṟa, bringing together Indigenous Knowledge and scientific research to guide the actions needed to support its recovery. More about the project is available from the Indigenous Desert Alliance.
