Conservation Assignment

Fire, Predators and the Endangered Northern Bettong

Organisation

Location

Year
2019

Nicolas spent time on location in Far North Queensland documenting research into the northern bettong. The piece combines footage and stills shot in the field with trail camera images supplied by the research team.

The northern bettong is found in only a tiny section of Queensland’s Wet Tropics and has declined severely, now persisting in just two locations. Chris Pocknee, a PhD student at The University of Queensland working with the Queensland Department of Environment and Science, is filling knowledge gaps about the impact of fire and feral cats on the species, work that will help guide its recovery.
